Baltimore Orioles enthusiasts are fans of one of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball. The franchise began as the Milwaukee Brewers in 1894. The 1901 season saw the franchise join the American League as one its eight charter franchises. The ballclub then moved to St. Louis after the 1901 season and became the St. Louis Browns. The franchise stayed in St. Louis through 1953, yet only managed to win one American League pennant during that time in 1944.

Moving to Baltimore gave the franchise a fresh start with hopes of finally capturing the postseason success it had sought throughout its entire history. The franchise changed its name from the Browns to the Orioles after the state bird of Maryland. This team name had been used before by a previous baseball team in Maryland, including the American League Baltimore Orioles franchise that existed between 1901 and1902. That team went on to become the New York Yankees.

During the 1960s the Baltimore Orioles began to assert itself as a power in the American League. Led by Hall of Fame ballplayers such as pitcher Jim Palmer, outfielder Frank Robinson and third baseman Brooks Robinson, the Orioles won American League pennants in 1966 and 1969-1971. The franchise also won American League East division titles in 1969-1971 and 1973-1974. Most important, the Baltimore Orioles were World Series champions in 1966 and 1970. Years of mediocrity finally became seasons of great success during the second half the sixties and first half of the seventies with Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver at the helm.

The Baltimore Orioles would continue to experience regular season and postseason success throughout the seventies and eighties, winning AL East titles and AL pennants in 1979 and 1983. The 1983 squad led by future Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. won the third World Series title in franchise history.

Baltimore Orioles fans have only seen their team advance to the playoffs twice since 1983, as the American League East champion in 1997 and the AL wild card representative a season earlier. That last playoff appearance in 1997 also marked the last time the Baltimore Orioles have compiled a winning record through the 2011 season.

However, in spite of the tough times Baltimore Orioles fans are extremely loyal and the team plays at one of the finest stadiums in the league, Camden Yard. Fans can purchase Orioles tickets through this website, secure great seats and contribute to an outstanding charity in the process.
