Boston Red Sox Tickets
It would be difficult to find a team in the American League that has suffered through more heartache, yet experienced more joy than the Boston Red Sox. This franchise was first created back in 1901 as the Boston Americans. The franchise kept that name for seven seasons before changing its name to the Boston Red Sox in 1908. The franchise played its home games at Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds from 1901 until 1911 before moving into one of Major League Baseball’s most beloved stadiums, Fenway Park, the same venue where the Red Sox play its home games at today.
The Boston Red Sox have enjoyed considerable success in its recent history. Through the 2011 season the Red Sox have won six American League East division titles, twelve AL pennants, seven World Series championships and qualified for the postseason as the American League wild card representative on seven occasions. A resume like that would cause the casual baseball fan to believe the Boston Red Sox had only tasted victory, never defeat.
Die-hard baseball fans would remind us that the coin has two sides, and the Boston Red Sox have indeed suffered through one of the most unbearable World Series droughts in baseball history. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 1918. The franchise would suffer through four miserable defeats in the “Fall Classic” before finally winning another championship in 2004. The squad actually qualified for the playoffs via the wild card system and was down 0 games to3 to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
The comeback put together by this “group of idiots” as first baseman Kevin Millar called the team had never happened before in Major League Baseball. The Boston Red Sox won the next four games against its arch rival New York Yankees, then swept the St. Louis Cardinals to claim its first World Series victory in 86 years. The franchise would win one more title just three seasons later.
