The Cleveland Indians have a long history in the Major Leagues. The Indians were one of the eight original American League charter franchises starting out in 1900 as the Lake Shores. A year later the team joined Major League Baseball as the Cleveland Bluebirds. This franchise has also been called the Bronchos and the Naps until settling on the Indians name in 1915.
Cleveland has been a member of the American League its entire history. When baseball expanded to three divisions in each league the Indians became a member of the AL Central. The franchise currently has the most American League Central division titles with seven, including five in the nineties.
