The Colorado Rockies first began Major League Baseball play in 1993. This franchise, along with the Florida Marlins, joined the league that year. Both teams joined the National League. The Rockies became a member of the National League West and have been a member of that division for its entire history.

Colorado Rockies baseball was an immediate hit in Denver. The Rockies called Mile High Stadium home for the first two seasons, drawing an incredible 4,483,350 fans during its first season. That is an attendance record that still stands today. The Colorado Rockies moved into their present home of Coors Field in 1995. This beautiful field has concourses and is constructed in such a manner that a fan can watch the ballgame from anywhere within the stadium. The thin air in Denver makes Coors Field a true hitter’s ballpark with the ball flying out of the yard at an astonishing rate. This makes for exciting, fan friendly baseball as most games produce plenty of offense.

The Rockies qualified for the postseason for the first time in just their third season in 1995 as the National League Wild Card team. This was the fastest any team had reached the playoffs. The Rockies qualified for the playoffs on two other occasions 2007 and 2009, both times as the National Leagues Wild Card team. The team put together one of the greatest post-season runs in baseball history during the 2007 season as the Rockies won 14 of its last 15 games and beat the San Diego Padres in a one-game playoff to secure the Wild Card berth. Colorado then swept both the Philadelphia Phillies in three games and the Arizona Diamondbacks in four games to capture their first National League pennant and advance to the World Series for the first time in franchise history. The run would end there as the team was swept by the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.
