One of the more storied franchises in Major League Baseball is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The franchise was originally established back in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York. After trying out a number of different nicknames the team finally settled on the Dodgers in 1932.
The Dodgers stayed in Brooklyn through the 1957 season before starting play in Los Angeles in 1958. The Brooklyn Dodgers won twelve National League pennants and one World Series title before making the move to Los Angeles. Through the 2011 season the Dodgers have won eleven NL West titles, nine National League pennants and five World Series titles.
When the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles the team played its first four seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Dodger Stadium opened for play in 1962 and is currently the third oldest MLB ballpark. Dodger Stadium is also referred to as Chavez Ravine and boasts the largest seating capacity in the league at 56,000, just over 57,000 if the club allows standing room only for a game.
