Success has been tough for the Seattle Mariners to attain as the franchise did not record its first winning season until 1991. The other two years the Seattle Mariners won the AL West were 1997 and 2001.
The 2001 season was particularly special as the Seattle Mariners won 116 regular season games, breaking the 1998 New York Yankees mark of 114 wins in the American League and tying the 1906 Chicago Cubs for the most wins ever. Regular season success did not translate into postseason success as the franchise did not even advance to the World Series that season.
