The second incarnation of the Washington Senators became a member of Major League Baseball in 1961. A decade later the franchise packed its bags again and moved to Arlington, Texas. The Texas Rangers were born and became the second team to play in the state of Texas.

The team was immediately in a rebuilding stage as the last few years of the Senators franchise were not good seasons in terms of winning percentage. After the team’s first two seasons in Texas, both with more than 100 losses, the Rangers broke through in 1974 by winning 84 games and finishing second in the American League to the Oakland Athletics. Several post-season honors were awarded to members of the team, including Rookie of the Year honors to Mike Hargrove, Manager of the Year honors to Billy Martin and Jeff Burroughs won the American League MVP award.

However, it would not be until the franchise’s 24th year in Texas that team success finally occurred. The Texas Rangers won their first American League West crown in 1996 and won two more during the decade in 1998 and 1999. All three seasons the Rangers were matched up with the New York Yankees and all three years the Texas Rangers failed to advance to the American League Championship Series.

The team suffered through years of mediocrity after the team’s third AL West title. Still, Texas Rangers fans flocked to the team’s stadium, The Ballpark in Arlington by this time. Today the stadium is named Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and fans continue to jam the stadium every ballgame. Rangers tickets purchased directly from this website will not only get fans into the stadium but contribute to the work of a great charity organization as well.
